MISSION STATEMENT Waban Projects Inc. is a nonprofit corpora- tion organized to develop and operate programs which promote the general welfare and education of children and adults with developmental and other disabilities. SERVICE LOCATION(S) Waban's comprehensive service network extends throughout southern Maine and includes early intervention services for preschool children with autism and other intellectual/developmental disabilities through the Fraser-Ford Child Development Center, Children's and Adult Case Management Services, Adult Day Habilitation and Employment Services, Adult Residential Services, Social Enterprises including the TREE Experiential Center (home to Summer Camp and "Camp Waban") and SecureRMS, a nationally certified document destruction company that creates jobs for individuals with disabilities and channels all proceeds into our programs. Over the course of one year, Waban will provide services to over 6,100 individuals. WABAN 2017 GOALS As Waban reflects on 2016 and the impact of providing five decades of essential services to thousands of children and adults with special needs in southern Maine, our gaze is also firmly on the future and what lies ahead. Our grounding and centering purpose, providing services for individuals with autism, intellectual and other disabilities has been and will remain our touchstone in 2017 and beyond. To that end, we expect to complete our Capital Campaign for a 6,000 square- foot, state-of-the-art, Autism erapy Wing addition onto our existing Fraser-Ford Child Development Center, with construction expected to start prior to the end of 2016. Overseeing the construction, developing additional programming and planning the opening of the Autism erapy Wing in September 2017 will be a major initiative. When completed, the additional classrooms, therapy and counseling offices, large multipurpose space and other renovations will provide the best possible environment for children and families to succeed. Programmatically, we will continue our deliberate, measured and very thought- ful approach in how we support existing programs and expand and grow services to current and additional populations. Will Rogers, whose insights and plain ways of condensing matters of consequence to very simple words perhaps said it best, "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." Adhering to that principle, leveraging our programmatic and system strengths, while still maintaining and enhancing the quality and effectiveness of our spectrum of services will continue to be a key focus in the upcoming months and the years ahead. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Waban has started a $1.5 million Capital Campaign for a 6,000 square foot Autism erapy Wing at the Fraser-Ford Child Development Center. With the incidence of autism on the rise, the need for focused early intervention services increases. Waban has been successfully providing these types of services to children for 50 years and the new Autism erapy Wing will house four needed additional classrooms, a large multipurpose space and multiple consulting rooms for clinical specialists. Waban's signature fundraising event is the Annual Waban Telethon. Held the third Saturday in March, the 2017 event will be our 46th Annual Telethon to benefit Waban's Children's Programs including the Fraser-Ford Child Development Center and Children's Case Management. Televised throughout all of Maine and coastal New Hampshire, the event features musicians, dancers and other live entertainment as well as food, raffles and dozens of gift items.
