Center Day Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association and has been operating for 67 years. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine is to enhance and promote Jewish life and continuity locally, in Israel and throughout the world, and to generate the financial resources to develop, provide and support diverse programs, education and services in order to accomplish these goals. SERVICE LOCATION(S) Southern Maine Jewish Community Alliance of Southern Maine 2017 GOALS f Complete building our new home and move into it during summer 2017. f Increase our programming offerings to serve the needs of an expanding community. f New offerings will include: wellness classes for adults, expanding adult education programs, afterschool programming for kids and infant and young toddler care programs. f Offer more events that bring together PJ Library families (those with children from birth to age eight) to socialize and share Jewish values. f Expand the variety of healthy foods distributed within our pantry and increase the availability of diapers for the most vulnerable in our community. f Provide opportunities for learning more about and connecting with Israel. f Increase the visibility of Center Day Camp as a summer day camp and a rental venue for weddings, corporate events and private family functions. f Provide a welcoming place where the entire Jewish community can come together for learning and social connections. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Over the course of the year, we schedule a number of events including our Community Fall Festival that takes place at our Camp location on Lake Sebago in Windham. In the spring, we plan both donor and community gatherings. For all of these we seek monetary and in kind support including audio/visual assistance, marketing help, musical or other entertainment and food and beverage donations. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Annual Campaign gifts support organizations locally and abroad like our local Hebrew Schools and social service agencies in Israel. ey also assist in our work combatting incidents of bias against both Jews and other minorities and helping to create an atmosphere of tolerance and respect. Additionally, gifts support all JCA programs. Specific campaigns raise funds for our new building and for scholarships for our day camp, preschool and adult education. Jewish Family Services targeted campaigns seek funds for the pantry and fuel assistance. During December, JFS runs the Hanukkah Lights program which distributes gifts and warm clothing to children of all faiths. We welcome the participation of local businesses in this project should they wish to "adopt a family" for whom they'll provide holiday gifts. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES We are always looking for volunteers to staff the pantry and to help with food transport to the pantry. Our pantry serves families by appointment on Tuesdays and ursdays. Our system is family friendly: people come individually to shop for food. "Shoppers" often share with us how calm, comfortable, safe and welcome our pantry makes them feel. Other opportunities exist for friendly visitors, holiday programs and assistance with events. Center Day Camp is helped each year by participating in the United Way Day of Caring, which includes opportunities for outdoor cleanup, painting and other fix up projects. For more information about these and other opportunities contact Andrea Krasker Gavin at volunteer@mainejewish.org.
