August 2016: Mainebiz selected Sweetser President and CEO Deb Taylor as a 2016 Women to Watch honoree for her contributions to the behavioral health field and community. July 2016: The Maine Department of Health and Human Services, in coordina- tion with the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services, awarded Sweetser the contract to provide recovery-based peer training statewide. September 2015: Sweetser selected to participate in Dartmouth InSHAPE Implementation Project. MISSION STATEMENT Sweetser's mission is to provide quality treatment, support and hope to children, adults and families through a network of mental health, behavioral health and educational services. SERVICE LOCATION(S) State of Maine Sweetser 2017 GOALS Sweetser offers services that address mental illnesses, behavioral disorders and learning disabilities through a network of educational programs, preventive services, community-support services, residential homes and outpatient services. Annually, we serve more than 20,000 Mainers in more than 80 communities throughout the state. Children, adults and families access services through our network of care which includes counseling offices, a respected medical team, two schools for students with special education and emotional needs, a train- ing institute, a recovery center and children's residential programs in Belfast, Hampden, Rockport, Saco and Winterport. We are committed advocates seeking to enhance the safety, health and pro- ductivity of children, adults and families. Key areas on which we focus: f Ensuring quality, timely residential care for children in need. f Supporting access to safe and affordable housing for at-risk individuals and families within their community of choice. f Providing adequate funding for medication management therapy for indi- viduals who use both MaineCare (Medicaid) and Medicare. f Recognizing and championing the strength of the community mental health system in Maine as a practical alternative to more costly categories of care (e.g., emergency rooms, inpatient care and jails). FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Sweetser has three major fundraising events that provide several sponsorship opportunities for business participation and donor support. f The Sweetser/KeyBank "Sold on Kids" Auction & Dinner is on May 12, 2017 at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks in South Portland. Approximately 400 guests attend this fun night. f The Sweetser/Prime Motor Group Golf Classic is scheduled for June 19, 2017 at Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach. is popular tourna- ment includes 37 teams. f Cycle for Sweetser Family Bike Ride will be held in September 2017. is fun family ride includes three different distances along the Eastern Trail in Saco, starting at the Sweetser Farm and Campus. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Volunteers are essential to Sweetser's work, adding life experience, diverse interests and unique abilities to extend the network of care we offer to children, adults, families and communities. Available opportunities include: activity leader, spending one-to-two hours per week sharing hobbies and interests in residential settings; classroom assistant, working with a teacher or teacher's aide; mentors, who commit to regular visits, developing a positive, supportive relationship with a child; and special events volunteers, helping at our fundraising events.
