The move marks a continuation of rapid expansion for the brewery that has grown from producing 3,000 barrels a year in 2014 to 20,000 barrels a year at its current location, where it moved to a lit- tle over a year ago. Expanding at the loca- tion allows the firm to remain in Worcester while growing its capacity to 50,000 barrels a year, said Founding Partner and Master Brewer Ben Roesch. The 14,000-square-foot expansion will bring the brewery up to 24,000 square feet and take place in two phases over the next 12 months. The first phase will include the build out of a dedicated 8,000 square foot pack- aging hall that will feature an automated bottling line, a kegging line, and enough space to incorporate a canning line in the near future. The second phase will have 4,000 square feet dedicated for future fer- mentation and capacity increases. Obamacare fee to cost Mass. $162M over 10 years, study finds Expanding health care in Massachusetts under the new federal health insurance law will cost taxpayers in the common- wealth at least $162 million over the next decade, according to a new report from a Boston think tank. The study from the Pioneer Institute examined the potential impacts of the Health Insurer Provider Fee, an Affordable Care Act fee used to help pay for the expansion of Medicaid to people with incomes below 138 percent of the federal poverty level. The fee will cost Massachusetts a total of $324 million over the next decade, although half of that will be reimbursed by the federal government. National Grid files to extend Smart Grid pilot program As the state continues to examine a grid modernization proposal, National Grid has filed to extend its Smart Energy Solutions (SES) pilot program in Worcester for an additional two years. By extending the program that was set to expire in 2017, the energy company can both continue to learn from the pilot program and also allow the 15,000 Worcester residents taking part in the program to continue to make use of the additional technology and services the program provides. The program has received scrutiny from cost overruns that have taken the cost of the program to run past its initial $45.5 million budget up to $55 million and counting. Urgent care center opening in Marlborough CareWell Urgent Care has announced its newest urgent care center will open at 757 Boston Post Road in Marlborough. The center is CareWell's 16th urgent care practice in New England, and the fourth to be affiliated with UMass Memorial Health Care. The UMass Memorial affiliation allows the health system to refer appropriate patients to nearby CareWell centers, reducing wait times and costs for illnesses and injuries that don't need to be treated at the hospi- tals, according to CareWell. In a statement, UMass Memorial President and CEO Eric Dickson said its three other CareWell affiliates average more than 700 visits per month. MetroWest Medical, Beth Israel part- nership greenlit A clinical affiliation between MetroWest Medical Center and Boston powerhouse hospital Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center was unani- mously approved by the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission. According to Jeffrey Hulburt, presi- dent and CEO of BIDCO, the commis- sion's market impact review found MetroWest Medical joining the hospital's network has the potential to improve healthcare delivery, access and quality. The two organizations will work together to enhance services including primary care, oncology, surgery and obstetrics and gynecology, according to the hospitals. The two hospital networks will also link medical record systems. n >> Continued from page 5
