42 Worcester Business Journal • Giving Guide 2016 www.wbjournal.com Old Sturbridge Village Future Goals Our strategic visitor experience initiative is carefully examining all aspects of the visitor experience in an effort to increase our ability to attract more visitors and make Old Sturbridge Village a year-round destination. Additional emphasis is on the Village's role in the local and regional community as an educational resource for history as well as vocational programs. Goals for the near and long term include: • Continue to increase attendance through the addition of new programs and events, including an investment in theatrical and nighttime performances; • Expand educational opportunities for students of all ages; • Expand the footprint of galleries and exhibition spaces and invest in collections care and management; • Expand the intern and volunteer programs; • Invest in our costumed historians and artisans and recruit and train the next generation of historic crafts- people; • Make food a reason to visit the Village; and • Expand member programs. Fundraising Events/Opportunities The Village holds several fundraising events throughout the year in addition to donor recognition events. Dates for 2017 are currently being set. 9th Annual Gala, September 17, 2016: The Gala is the Village's largest fundraiser of the year and includes a silent and live auction, a signature Vaillancourt Folk Art Santa, and the 1946 Circle, which honors community members who have had a significant impact on the region and the museum. Ken Burns Lifetime Achievement Award, October 13, 2016: Filmmaker Ken Burns made his first documentary at the Village, and this award recognizes an individual who has had a significant impact on the preservation of history. President's Award, June 2017 TBD: Held in Boston, the President's Award honors someone who has had a signifi- cant impact on the museum and the cultural field in Massa- chusetts. Volunteer Opportunities The volunteer program at Old Sturbridge Village plays a vital role in fulfilling the museum's mission to recreate and preserve the past for visitors. More than 100 volunteers collectively contribute thousands of service hours annually. Our volunteers fill many roles, from costumed interpreters to office assistants, and herb garden curators. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Giving Opportunities Become a member and enjoy daytime access to the Village, discounts on events, lodging, and food, as well as special members' only events like the Annual Friends' Day.
