HMEA refers 4,000 families and directly serves 400 children with autism. • Work with lawmakers to advocate for programs and policies that help families care for their children. • Actively recruit providers so families no longer face long waits for critical in-home therapies and respite services. Launched last year, HMEA's Students for Higher hires and trains qualified college students to serve as behavioral therapists. • To provide purpose-driven employment and volunteer opportunities for people with autism and development disabilities, including positions in technology and the sciences. • To hire the best, brightest and most qualified and diverse staff who believes in HMEA's mission. • "Hire and Higher: Leveraging the Autism Advantage to meet the region's workforce demands" will be held on April 11, 2017, and will help employers understand the advantages of hiring those with autism spectrum disorders for technical positions. Fundraising Events/Opportunities • HMEA's incredABLE Walk, Run and All-Day Family Fun (May 21, 2017): Celebrate the ABLE in all of us! IncredABLE raises over $200,000 to benefit the individuals and families we serve. Hosted by EMC 2 in Franklin, Massachusetts. Free entertainment, food and family-centered activities. • Autism Resource Central – Community 5K Walk and Run for Autism Acceptance (April): Raises over $200,000 to help families raise their children with Autism. Held in DCR's Quinsigamond Park in Worcester. • Two golf tournaments raise funds so HMEA can further its mission. In June, EMC 2 hosts a tournament that raises funds for HMEA's vital programs. TEE UP FOR AUTISM is held every August and helps those individuals and families served by HMEA's Autism Resource Central. Volunteer Opportunities • Our volunteers offer their time and talent so that people with autism and other developmental disabilities can lead independent, productive and fulfilling lives. Our volunteers help at our annual fundraising events, complete home im- provement projects, provide clerical support or share their talents with the people we serve. • HMEA invites individuals and groups to volunteer their time and talents. Giving Opportunities • HMEA's Dreams Come True Annual Appeal spans three seasons and reaches families, supporters and area corporations through direct mail and new media. Throughout the year, HMEA continues to broaden our donor base and communicate to our supporters the impact their charitable gifts have in the community. • Memorial and Honorariums: honor loved ones and recognize achievements. • In-Kind Donations: computer tablets, smart phones, home furnishings and physical and orthopedic equipment. • Grantors and Private Foundations: support specific programs that serve people with autism and developmental disabilities through education, employment opportunities and life-enhancing programs that help them reach for independence. • Monthly and Annual Giving: direct and automatic donations to HMEA so that we can continue to provide critical services and supports to those we serve. • The Horace Mann Promise Society: honors donors who include HMEA into their estate plans and promising that HMEA's vital services and supports continue for decades to come.
