34 Worcester Business Journal • Giving Guide 2016 www.wbjournal.com The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts Future Goals The Hanover Theatre's strategic plan identifies future goals that focus on four key areas: 1. To build a vibrant, inviting theatre district in downtown Worcester with activity 18 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to encourage multiple cultural, dining and retail options, realize more parking to accommodate visitors and improve the urban fabric of the theatre district. 2. To create a financially sustainable organization. The theatre plans to increase the percentage of operating budget that is supported through contributed income, diversify and grow earned revenue streams, establish and build an endowment, and practice fiscal responsibility in all facets of the organization. 3. To utilize our new conservatory for the performing arts to expand and broaden our arts engagement opportunities across the lifetime of our patrons. The theatre plans to establish a thriving arts education center for patrons of all ages, encouraging them to become involved in the theatre beyond their ticket purchasing experience. 4. To be a destination that includes the broadest possible audience. The theatre plans to increase its peripheral community outreach to engage a more diverse population, utilize technology to engage people and enhance the live experience, create a welcoming and accessible venue for all audiences, and leverage partnerships with major promoters to bring in world- class artists. Fundraising Events/Opportunities Members of The Hanover Theatre play an important role in keeping our nonprofit organization strong so that we may continue to serve the cultural needs of our community. In return, members receive great benefits, including a 10% discount on most shows, early access to a wide range of performances, including Broadway musicals, concerts, comedy and family shows, complimentary ticket exchanges and advance e-mail notification of new shows! Did you know that only $2 out of a $50 ticket goes to supporting the theatre's operating expenses? Members are vital to our ability to feature world-class performing arts in a magnificent historic venue. From Friend Level Membership ($75) to our Franklin Square Society ($1,200+), the theatre offers a wide range of membership opportunities to meet your needs and make you a part of The Hanover Theatre family. Sustaining memberships are now available so you can demonstrate your commitment to the theatre's long term success. Your yearly pledge will be charged to your debit or credit card and automatically rolled over year after year. Volunteer Opportunities As a nonprofit organization, we rely on volunteers for many important positions at the theatre. We invite you to apply to join us as a volunteer usher, ticket taker, greeter, gardener or in our administrative offices. The theatre welcomes over 180,000 patrons each year and we rely on our volunteers to help us deliver the very best in customer service. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, but we only contact potential volunteers for interviews and training in August before the start of a new season. The Hanover Theatre's volunteers are rewarded first and foremost with our gratitude for their time and talents, with a host of other benefits as well. Contact us today to find a volunteer position that's right for you! Giving Opportunities Building a great cultural institution takes imagination, leadership, hard work and most important, community support. We aim to foster a love and appreciation for the performing arts in audiences of today and tomorrow through the Access to the Arts Fund. Donations can also support our new 7,500 square foot conservatory for the performing arts, which houses rehearsal rooms, dance and performance studios, a technical lighting lab and a full-time education department. The theatre will significantly expand its impact and offerings to youth of many backgrounds, age groups and interests. Our region has been greatly underserved in performing arts education. We are prepared and excited to fill the need with high-caliber education and enrichment opportunities. Contributions will support this valuable educational programming and make arts accessible to all in the community. Board of Directors Richard W.
