Amy Alward, exclusive agency owner in South Portland, was recognized as Allstate's "2016 Best in Company" for agencies her size. Kate Dutra, operations manager and a certifi ed professional dog trainer at Green Acres Kennel Shop in Bangor, was recertifi ed as a professional dog trainer by the Certifi cation Council for Professional Dog Trainers, an interna- tionally recognized certifi cation pro- gram for professional dog trainers. National Institute for Civil Discourse presented Maine State Treasurer Terry Hayes, Independent, and Rep. Matt Pouliot, R-Augusta, with its Award for Civility in State Governance in recognition of their commitment to working in a civil, productive manner for the good of their constituents. Berman & Simmons, a law fi rm in Lewiston, said six of its attorneys have been named to the soon-to-be released 2017 edition of "Best Lawyers in America," a national peer review publication. In addition, attorney Benjamin Gideon was named a Maine "Lawyer of the Year" for product liability litigation for plaintiff s. Patricia Pierce Erikson recently earned Accreditation in Public Relations des- ignation. Erikson is the director of mar- keting and communications and editor of Postscripts Alumni Magazine at Thornton Academy in Saco and a member of the Maine Public Relations Council. Shaheen & Gordon PA, a law fi rm in Saco, said attorneys Peter Schroeter, Randall Smith and Karen Lovell have been named to the soon-to-be released 2017 edi- tion of Best Lawyers in America 2017, a national peer review publication. In addition, Schroeter also received recog- nition as the 2017 Mediation "Lawyer of the Year" for the Portland area. Rudman Winchell, a law fi rm in Bangor, said six of its attorneys have been named to the soon-to-be released 2017 edition of "Best Lawyers in America," a national peer review publication. In addition, attorney Edmond Bearor was recognized as the "Lawyer of the Year" for land use and zoning law. e fi rm also received a Tier 1 ranking and "top tier" rankings in 10 practice areas. U.S. Sen. Susan Collins received the "Legislator of the Year Award" from the American Ambulance Association for her work on behalf of the fi re service. Sharon Vaughan and Janice McDermott were named "Caregivers of the Month" for June by Comfort Keepers, a provider of in-home support services for older adults, in Scarborough and Kennebunk. Verrill Dana, a law fi rm, said 50 if its attor- neys in Portland and one in Augusta have been named to the soon-to-be released 2017 edition of "Best Lawyers in America," a national peer review pub- lication. In addition, Eric Altholz, Charles Bacall, Robert Brooks, Susan Bryant, Harold Friedman, Keith Jones, Thomas Newman and David Warren were named "Lawyer of the Year" in their practice areas. e fi rm also announced partner Tim Shannon was named to Benchmark Litigation's "Inaugural Under 40 Hot List," honor- ing achievements of the nation's most accomplished legal partners who are 40 years old and younger. Skelton Taintor & Abbott, a law fi rm in Auburn, said Stephen Wade, a share- holder of the fi rm, was selected as the 2017 "Lawyer of the Year" for insur- ance law in the state of Maine by "Best Lawyers in America." Casco Bay Wealth Advisors in Brunswick announced that Trena Bean, client ser- vices manager, attained her FINRA Series 6 and 63 licenses, held through Commonwealth Financial Network. Pine Tree Society, an organization in Portland serving Maine children and adults with disabilities, recognized Priority Learning of S outh Portland, Dave Johnson, owner of Kennebec Electric in Waterville, and Marie Preston, the second executive director of the organization, with its 2016 Spirit of Pine Tree Society award. Thomas College in Waterville said its peer mentoring program was recerti- fi ed by College Reading and Learning Association's International Mentor Training Program Certifi cation for the next fi ve years. Maine Maritime Museum in Bath announced its trustees selected Eimskip USA as the recipient of the 11th annual Mariners Award, pre- sented to an individual or organiza- tion that has made extraordinary contributions to Maine's maritime heritage and signifi cantly impacted the state's culture and economy.
