Driving
Innovation
Striving to bring new and
innovative technology
to institutional clients is
an ongoing endeavor at AI.
S
ervices such as building information
modeling (BIM) and accelerated
bridge construction (ABC) deliver exciting
time-saving and money-saving processes
to the owners. Wireless bridge monitoring
provides a significant benefit to transpor
-
tation agencies and the public, providing
greater safety while lowering costs.
For the past two years, AI has part-
nered with Resensys, deploying SenSpot™
wireless monitoring sensors on several
bridges. These devices, developed by
Resensys, provide continuous data on strain
(stress), vibration, tilt, inclination, tempera-
ture, humidity and acoustic emission events.
"Being wireless is a significant ad-
vantage of Resensys technology because
installation of wiring systems on bridges is
an expensive and labor intensive task." says
Executive Vice President, Aslam Siddiqui, PE.
Another recent project will see AI take
advantage of unmanned aerial vehicles
(UAVs) to evaluate their effectiveness as a
tool for inspectors on NBIS bridge inspec
-
tion projects. It is the first inspection project
of its kind using a UAV on a bridge of this
size, complexity and location; carrying an
interstate highway (I-95), crossing over a
large river, rail tracks, roads, and in close
proximity to a tower controlled airport.
Beyond physical technology, AI has
placed itself ahead of the industry in
adopting sustainable and functional design
practices. As the millennial generation
returns to the urban environment, the need
to build new and renovate existing structures
