www.HartfordBusiness.com July 25, 2016 • Hartford Business Journal 5 Shaping Greater Hartford's future Y oung leaders are the future of Hartford and the state of Connecticut. Yes, it's a cliché, but the truth behind that statement will be even more self-evident in the pages that follow, as Hartford Busi- ness Journal highlights our 40 Under Forty class of 2016. This year's class is particularly special not only because of what they have achieved in their careers and given back to the commu- nity, but also because we are celebrating our 20th annual 40 Under Forty awards. The occasion is prompting us to look back at some of our past win- ners and, more importantly, look ahead to our current class and their perspectives on how to shape a more vibrant and prosperous region. They've each shared their insights on how to make the Capital City a better place to live, work and play, for all residents and visitors. Our theme this year is "standing the test of time," which our 40 Under Forty awards have done over the last two decades. Our annual awards issue and event have evolved and grown into a popular celebration drawing young leaders and entrepreneurs from across the region. This year may be one of our most diverse classes ever, both in terms of our winners' backgrounds and their careers and journeys to early success. We've got several entrepreneurs who didn't graduate or attend col- lege, but run successful, growing small businesses. We've got lawyers, city officials, media and nonprofit executives and even a military war hero. They work in diverse industries ranging from education, automotive, steel and health care to financial and food services and renewable energy. The nonprofit sector is also well represented. Their stories and talents are inspiring, offering the city and state hope that better days lie ahead. Our winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges, who also happen to be past 40 Under Forty winners. They were asked to identify outstanding young professionals in the Greater Hartford area who are excelling in their industries through leader- ship roles. We thank our judges for their help and you can learn more about them on page 31. Finally, we ask that you join us in congratulating this exceptional group of young professionals and help us celebrate their accomplish- ments. We'll be holding our annual 40 Under Forty bash Sept. 14, 2016, at the Connecticut Convention Center. It's going to be a black tie and blue jeans affair and we're inviting all past winners to attend. We hope to see you there. – Greg Bordonaro Editor Hartford Business Journal Meet The Winners: Elizabeth F.
