36 Hartford Business Journal • July 25, 2016 www.HartfordBusiness.com Past Classes:1997 Papermaster's Hartford roots still firmly planted By John A. Lahtinen Special to the Hartford Business Journal D an Papermaster, a partner with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, is no stranger to the 40 Under Forty awards having twice been named to the annual list — in 1997 and again in 2000. Papermaster was with Bingham McCutchen until 2014 when the firm merged with Morgan Lewis, an international law practice with 28 offices around the world, including Hartford. The firm's services cover several major industry sectors such as energy, financial services, life sci- ences, retail and technology. Papermaster is one of the heads of the finance area. "We represent the major life insurance compa- nies, banks and hedge funds in financings around the globe," Papermaster said. Papermaster was part of the Morgan Lewis team that recently completed a $650 million financing of the first-ever privatization of student dormitory housing within the University System of Georgia. Under the deal, Corvias Group's student hous- ing division, Corvias Campus Living, will develop, construct, manage and maintain student housing including 3,683 new beds and 6,195 existing beds totaling more than 3 million square feet across nine of the University System of Georgia's 31 campuses. Papermaster says a major goal for the firm in the near future is growth. "We continue to want to grow our finance prac- tice and expand the Hartford office," he said. "In the past year, we have added three attorneys to the Hartford office and we are looking for more." In addition to being named numerous times to best lawyer lists, Papermaster has also been award- ed the Chairman's Award from the Hartford Down- town Council and the Liberty Bell Award for out- standing public service from the Hartford County Bar Association. He also remains very involved in community activities serving on the board of directors of Camp Laurelwood, a Jewish co-ed overnight summer camp in Madison; and chairing Hartford's Mark Twain Days Festival. Very content and satisfied professionally, these days Papermaster is focusing on the bigger picture. "Our clients are very bright, the deals are extremely interesting and the lawyers within the firm are wonderfully talented so it makes the job very rewarding," Papermaster said. "My goal is to stay healthy and enjoy life." 'We continue to want to grow our finance practice and expand the Hartford office. In the past year, we have added three attorneys to the Hartford office and we are looking for more.'
