B I Z 13 J U LY 2 5 , 2 0 1 6 Ellsworth's largest housing complex hinges on vote A Portland developer went before Ellsworth City Council on July 18 with a proposal for a 50-unit aff ord- able housing development. e Ellsworth American reports that fi rm behind the proposal, which would be the largest housing project in the city if it gets the go-ahead, is Manx Development LLC, which is owned by Matt Teare, of the Portland-based Developers Collaborative. Kevin Bunker, also of the collaborative, is the development consultant of the proposed project. e proposal calls for 11 buildings on 4.67 acres that would have to be purchased from DK Ellsworth Shopping Center LLC, the owners of the nearby shop- ping center that is home to both a Renys and Shaw's supermarket, the American reports. " ese new homes are proposed to be constructed in a series of multi-family buildings that typically range in size from four to eight apartments," the developers wrote in their proposal to Ellsworth city offi cials, the American reports. "A community building will be con- structed at the neighborhood core. is new neighborhood is envisioned to fi ll a critical need for aff ordable housing for members of the commu- nity who work in Ellsworth and the surrounding area." Brewer-based CES acquires Saco engineering fi rm Brewer-based civil engineering fi rm CES Inc. announced July 11 that it has acquired the Saco-based con- sulting engineering fi rm Mohlin & Co. e acquisition of Mohlin & Co. will not only expand the com- pany's physical presence in southern Maine, but also provide a boost to CES' structural engineering services to heavy and light industrial clients, a CES press release said. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. "We are very pleased to welcome Bob [Mohlin, owner and president of Mohlin] and his staff to the CES team. We believe that both clients of Mohlin and CES will benefi t from this acquisition," CES President and CEO Denis St. Peter said in a pre- pared statement. "By supplementing our structural engineering services with very experienced structural engineers and junior engineers and drafters at Mohlin, we are adding depth to the services we provide." As part of the acquisition, Robert Mohlin, owner and president of Mohlin & Co., which was founded in 1982, will continue to serve as branch manager of the Saco location of CES. e fi rm will be known to current clients of Mohlin as Mohlin & Co., a division of CES.
