Alex Zequeira (pictured above)
is the new headmaster at St. John's
High School in Shrewsbury,
effective July 1. He joined St. John's
from the Nativity School of
Worcester, where he was founding
president from 2003-2004,
returning to the position in 2011.
Zequeira (pictured above)
graduated from the College of the
Holy Cross in 1994 with a
bachelor's degree in history. He
began his teaching career at
Kingswood-Oxford School in West
Hartford, Conn., teaching
Spanish, drama and journalism;
coaching soccer, basketball and
baseball; and serving as assistant
director of admissions and
eighth-grade class dean.
After his stint as the Nativity
School's first principal, Zequeira
returned to his alma mater, Belen
Jesuit Preparatory School in Miami,
to work as a social studies teacher;
football, basketball and track and
field coach; and executive director
of the alumni association.
He returned to the northeast
to join the Wooster School in
Danbury, Conn. as dean of upper
school, where he taught Spanish,
European and Latin American
history and coached basketball
and softball.
Many Nativity Worcester
graduates move on to St. John's
after graduation, and the two
schools have always had a great
relationship. Zequeira said he is
proud of what the Nativity School
has accomplished under his
leadership, including a three-year
$10.5 million fundraising
campaign.
