Meagher, smeagher@nebusinessmedia.com The company's financing came through a joint venture in China that not only raised more money than the com- pany could have through an IPO, according to Mevion president and CEO Joseph K. Jachinowski, but also opened up the Chinese market. The Mevion S250 fits in a far smaller space than other proton therapy treat- ments. The funding will help President and CEO Barry Clapp (pictured), move for- ward with expansion of the company's Budget Maestro suite of products. Last year the company secured the former CEO of British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, Jean-Pierre Garnier, as chairman of the board. The company's devices, that are built off of tablets and similar devices, are in-use or in testing with four of the country's top 20 U.S. retailers, including Rite Aid, The Container Store and Lowe's Canada. The company has created a new metal alloy, dubbed LUNA, that it says could replace gold and help cell- phones last longer and resist corrosion that ultimately affects their ability to recharge. To celebrate the 50th anni- versary of Star Trek, the com- pany launched a gaming app based on the science fiction series.
