Charlie Baker signed a bill in late May that was whisked through the Legislature last week as part of a deal to avoid a high-priced ballot campaign fight between Partners HealthCare and a health care workers union over pricing disparities between major hospitals and community providers, according to the governor's office. The bill (H 4348) came about through negotiations between 1199 SEIU United Health Care Workers East and Partners brokered by the Baker administration and House and Senate leaders. The deal called for as much as $120 million to be steered to hospitals around the state, including ailing community hospitals, through increased Medicaid reimbursements and a new $45 million fund financed through existing assess- ments on hospitals. Lock 50 opens in Canal District Worcester's restaurant scene contin- ues to expand, with Lock 50 Restaurant and Café opening in the city's Canal District last month. The restaurant located at 50 Water Street is operated by the father-son duo of Ed and Sean Russo with Tim Russo, formally of Volturno serving as execu- tive chef. The café will be open every day serving breakfast and lunch, as well as small plates and drinks in the evenings. Worcester home sales shoot up 82% The sales of single family homes shot up by the greatest amount in the last four years for April, according to a report from The Warren Group, with Worcester exceeding state figures. The city of Worcester saw an 82-per- cent gain in home sales in April, up to 109, and is performing strong for the year at 43 percent above the previous year's sales, according to the group's data. The group there were 600 single- family home sales in Worcester County in April, up 38 percent year-over-year from the 434 sales last April. The year- to-date sales also remained steady at 34.3 percent above sales last year through April. Condo sales were also up 20.5 percent in April and 28 percent for the year in Worcester County. Greendale Mall foreclosure auction postponed The auction of the Greendale Mall has been postponed by a month, according to the website of the auctioneer for the property. The mall, that has been underper- forming for some time and lacks ten- ants, has been foreclosed on and will go to auction on June 24. The auction had initially been scheduled for May 26. The foreclosure was filed by Capmark Finance Inc. against Mayflower Greendale, L.P..
