www.wbjournal.com June 6, 2016 • Worcester Business Journal 3 Last week, we received a press release from a Chicago firm, saying it had pur- chased a software firm in the Boston sub- urb of Westborough and would use the site to gain a hold in the Boston market. Digital Editor Sam Bonacci and I shared a brief chuckle before he wrote up the item for our website and the WBJ Daily Report, wondering how many Westborough busi- nesses and residents would consider them- selves part of a Boston suburb, especially since we – as the Worcester Business Journal – think of Westborough as a vital community in our region. The MetroWest region along Interstate 495 – the focus of this issue – is in a weird location. It's not in Worcester, so it doesn't fall naturally into WBJ's coverage area; but it's not in Boston either, so it's not a natural fit for our rival Boston Business Journal. MetroWest definitely is its own area, growing daily with more companies; yet, it remains underserved by media outlets. Since we consider Central Massachusetts one big region inclu- sive of MetroWest – along with Sturbridge, North County, west all the way to Hardwick, and, of course, Worcester – we write the news from this entire region indiscriminate of the location. If you took and map and marked where the majority of these news items originate, MetroWest would have a disproportionate amount, because of its significant amount of news. Because of MetroWest's importance and standalone nature from both Worcester and Boston, we do give it extra attention than the other outlying areas of the city. We have our MetroWest/495 e-newsletter, showcasing the top news of the region each week. We also have special focus sections like in this issue, where we examine the growing popularity of MetroWest for millionaires. It turns out quiet communities, amenities cater- ing to their interests, and easy access to the region's hubs are important factors for the rich. So even though the businesses and people of MetroWest may not feel the same kinship to Worcester as, say, Boylston or Auburn, we definitely feel a kinship toward the region and its vital importance to the economy of the region and the state. -Brad Kane, editor This Week In The WBJ Worcester Business Journal (ISSN#1063-6595) is published bi-weeky, 24x per year, including 5 special issues in April, July, September, November and December, by New Engand Business Media. 172 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, MA 01604.
