The Holliston firm, formerly known as Harvard Apparatus Regenerative Technology, announced it had success- fully regenerated a segment of esopha- gus in a study of its Cellspan organ implants conducted with the Mayo Clinic. The company reported it used Cellspan esophageal implants to rebuild a section of the animal's esophagus. Fallon Health reports $5.6M first-quarter loss Worcester nonprofit insurer Fallon Health on May 13 reported a $5.6-mil- lion first-quarter net loss and a 14,000 member year-over-year decline. The $5.6-million net loss was posted on revenue of $298 million for the first quarter. The first-quarter loss represented a year-over-year decline from a first-quar- ter 2015 loss of $4.2 million on revenue of $317 million. Membership was 212,535 at the end of the first quarter 2016, compared with 226,527 for the close of the first quarter of 2015. High tech is 46% of Mass. payroll The Mass Technology Leadership Council annual State of the Technology Economy report has found the Massachusetts high-tech sector is direct- ly or indirectly responsible for 35 per- cent of all jobs in the state, 46 percent of the state's total payroll and 31 percent of the state's gross state product. Since 2010, the state has seen tech employment grow by more than 34,000 jobs, according to the report. The state ranked highly nationally, being the first for concentration of jobs and talent, first in technology manufacturing, second in technology services, and fourth both in terms of tech firms and tech jobs added. Simplivity consults on HBO's "Silicon Valley" Employees from Westborough tech- nology firm Simplivity served as consul- tants for the producers and writers of the HBO show "Silicon Valley," with the company's flagship OmniCube used as the basis for this season's episodes. The company and its technology served as the basis for the Pied Piper Box. The creative team for the satire show depicting the startup culture in California visited SimpliVity's headquar- ters in Westborough to view, research and recreate an authentic data center, according to Simplivity. Developer building new manufacturing spaces in Worcester Worcester entrepreneur Steven Rothschild will build a 16,800-square- foot manufacturing hub called the Armory Business Center in the South Worcester Industrial Park catering to the region's small manufacturers. The founder of Bulbs.com announced that the facility in Worcester's Main South neighborhood at 49 Canterbury St. will be designed with the modern amenities manufacturers need but at a smaller square-footage, in the hopes as the companies grow, they will keep a Worcester presence. The facility will be broken up into 1,867 square-foot units. Worcester's Washington Heights renovation gets $28M bond MassDevelopment issued a $28 mil- lion tax-exempt bond on behalf of Washington Heights Preservation Limited Partnership to renovate a 404- unit multi-family housing apartment complex known as Washington Heights. The Worcester project by Related Companies of New York City will pre- serve Washington Heights as affordable housing for 30 years, according to MassDevelopment.
