www.wbjournal.com May 23, 2016 • Worcester Business Journal 3 Have you ever read the credits at the end of a movie, and wondered how much work the people did to get their names on the screen? Unless you know them personally or were waiting for a post-credits scene at the end of a superhero movie, you – like the rest of us – left the theater or shut off the TV before the last credit rolled. Some of those people probably worked craft service for only a few weeks, and others probably worked tirelessly for years to make sure every detail of the movie came out per- fectly. Either way, these people don't get the same treatment as the flashy names in the opening credits and are relegated to the tiny type at the end of the picture, regardless of their con- tributions to the product. In every issue of Worcester Business Journal, we run a list: top green buildings, largest hotels, biggest banks, etc. This current issue features a much longer, more complex list – the Central Mass. 100 – at six pages, up from its usual one. Regardless of the length, every list has a small entry in the footnotes saying who the list was compiled by. That name is either Stephanie Meagher or Heide Martin, who make up the entirety of the research department for WBJ and our sister publications MaineBiz and Hartford Business Journal. While these lists may seem straightforward, the enormous amount of research, detail, persistence, complexity and judg- ment calls (on, say, the reliability of certain data) cannot be understated. Yet, Stephanie and Heide execute each one with excellence and precision. While the lists are relegated to the inside pages of the publication and suffer from a layout devoid of images or other eye-catching devices, they are really at the heart of what WBJ does: providing unbiased, top-level market intelligence for the Central Massachusetts business community. So, in this issue, as we publish our longest list of the year and prepare for our research-centric Book Of Lists publication for July 6, we should all stand up and applaud Stephanie and Heide. Their credit may be small, but their contribution is enormous. -Brad Kane, editor This Week In The WBJ Worcester Business Journal (ISSN#1063-6595) is published bi-weeky, 24x per year, including 5 special issues in April, July, September, November and December, by New Engand Business Media. 172 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, MA 01604.
