20 Business Profiles 2016 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com A state-chartered bank with approximately $6.2 in assets, United Bank underwent a "transformational merger" in 2014 with Connecticut-based Rockville Bank. The marriage of these financial institutions brought together a strong legacy of two independent-minded banks, whose growing market share, value-added products and services, recruiting and retaining top talent and charitable giving continues to be its hallmark. Headquartered in Glastonbury, Connecticut with 52 branches in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Worcester and Springfield, United Bank offers a complete line of products and services for personal and commer- cial clients alike. On the personal side, United provides standard ser- vices, including personal and checking accounts, mort- gages, home equity, investment services through financial advisors, auto and personal loans, as well as low-interest credit cards. Advanced technology enables clients to pay bills online, deposit checks with their mobile device and open certain accounts online. Debit cards contain the microchip, which protects against fraud, and Pause-It allows you to temporarily deactivate your card when it's missing or if you suspect fraud. Business clients enjoy many of the same benefits as their personal counterparts, but they also have access to term loans, small business and commercial lines of credit, as well as a state-of-the-art cash management platform. According to Tom McGregor, senior vice president and regional commercial banking executive, the commercial banking sector specializes in working with small busi- ness, commercial real estate and the commercial and industrial segments. Additionally, United has developed industry expertise in Franchise Finance and Not-for- profit/Education banking. "We aim to deliver for all cli- ents in the marketplace," he says. "We engage in dialogue with our clients and proactively provide solutions." Although products and services are one of the bank's focal points, its biggest asset is the dedicated team of pro- fessionals who bring experience and excellence to the institution, according to McGregor. "Our success is driv- en by our investing in people and our product capabili- ties. We have actively recruited the best talent," he says, noting that the Worcester and Springfield offices have hired two new teams. The Worcester office acquired Mark E. McGwin III, one of the leading bankers on the East Coast, who spe- cializes in financing solutions for Dunkin Donuts fran- chisees. Also, Dena M. Hall, regional president of the Western Massachusetts branch, received the 2015 Women of FIRE (finance, insurance and real estate) award, and McGregor was chosen a 2015 Community Banking Hero, both given by Banker & Tradesman. Also, the Worcester Business Journal named several of McGregor's team members to its 40 Under 40 awards program. As a community bank, United is vested in the commu- nities it serves. "In fact, community involvement is a driver of the bank," McGregor points out. "In 2015, our two foundations gave more than $1.2 million to hundreds of organizations." Worcester Art Museum, the Worcester Education Collaborative, the American Antiquarian Society and Y.O.U., Inc. are just a few of the recipients of United's generosity. Bank employees also donate thousands of volunteer hours to a host of non-profit organizations and events. "It's extremely important. It goes back to the people we hire who have deep roots in the community," asserts McGregor. United Bank continues to fulfill its promise of more – more technology, more products and services, and more community commitment. n United Bank: Committed to Growth and Giving Back G L A S T O N B U R Y , C T United Bank Address: 45 Glastonbury Boulevard Glastonbury, CT 06033 Phone: 866-959-2265 Website: www.bankatunited.com Product or Service: A full spectrum of financial products and services, including personal banking, business banking and investment services.
