RETURN LAP Rob Roemer of Rob's Automotive in Dudley teamed up with the Central MA Wanderers Car Club for a Poker Run fundraiser. They raised $5,000 for the UMass Memorial NICU, where Roemer's now-7-year-old son spent time after being born premature. People, places and happenings in Central Massachusetts { Of Note } Workers' Credit Union of Fitchburg was one of the top fundraisers for the 2015 Greater Gardner Relay for Life event, raising $22,164 for American Cancer Society. ERA Key Realty Services in Auburn donated $1,000 to The Marfan Foundation, which supports research into a life-threatening genetic disorder that affects connective tissues. Price Chopper, with stores in Central Mass., has raised more than $153,000 from its month-long pin-up campaign and the sale of more than 8,500 plush primates for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. CARDIAC CARE Employees at UMass Memorial Medical Center dressed in red and formed a heart in honor of American Heart Month in February, which highlights heart disease awareness. PLAY TIME Toys came early this year to the UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center in Worcester. A softball game between the Worcester County Sheriff's Office and Massachusetts Trial Court raised $4,000 for items like baby monitors, play mats and Legos.
