The 260 panels on the camp's gymnasium are estimated to produce 80,920 kWh of clean, renewable energy each year. Twenty-fi ve percent of the project's total cost was funded by a USDA Rural Energy for America Program grant. Ellsworth may raise sewer rates e city of Ellsworth has been working diligently to attract new businesses and work with existing businesses to expand their opera- tions. But with less new develop- ment than previously anticipated, and faced with a costly new wastewater treatment plant, the city is consider- ing raising sewer rates to help make ends meet, the Ellsworth American reported. A new treatment plant has been built, but despite multiple grants to help cover the $21 million price tag, projected development such as new stores, businesses and housing, did not occur at the growth rate expected. $6.2M raised for Bigelow Labs housing e Harold Alfond Foundation has awarded $3.1 million to Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences to build a 32-bed student and visiting scientist residence on its East Boothbay Campus. "We are striving for a new zero-energy building," Graham Shimmield, the lab's executive director, said in a statement. e lab has focused on energy effi ciency since open- ing in its new location in December 2012.
