G I V I N G G U I D E 2015 www.HartfordBusiness.com December 15, 2015 • Hartford Business Journal 45 GOALS: MCC Foundation strives to raise awareness of, and major support for, the college's key funding needs and priorities. Partnerships — Manchester Community College meets the needs of students and stakeholders by leveraging the collective creativity, experience and commitment of the college community and our regional partners. MCC Foundation supports this initiative by: • Expanding and developing connections with local and national governmental, cultural business and other educational institutions. • Promoting the work of MCC faculty, staff, students and alumni in the community. • Developing a culture of philanthropy internally and externally. MCC's planning focuses on projected areas of workforce growth, and the programs and facilities that will accommodate it. The college has identified the need for nearly 140,000 square feet of additional space to accommodate possible and projected demand. MCC Foundation aims to increase funding for scholarships, programs and equipment to help offset the fact that: • Nearly 32 percent of MCC's budget comes from state funding. It is more important now than ever to strengthen philanthropic support of the college. • Despite MCC's low tuition, more than half of the students who attend rely on financial aid — a number that has seen double-digit increases in recent years. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Each spring, MCC Foundation hosts the annual Evening of Fine Wines, a signature fundraiser that benefits MCC scholarships and programs. At the 2015 Evening of Fine Wines, nearly $280,000 was donated in support of student success. The 2016 presenting sponsor of Evening of Fine Wines is Adam Jeamel and United Bank Foundation Connecticut, Inc. Individuals or businesses that wish to sponsor the event or give through in-kind gifts or donations can visit www.MCCgiving.org for more information. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES: Naming Opportunities — Prominent naming opportunities are available across campus and at MCC on Main, Manchester Community College's arts and education center located downtown. Contributions for naming opportunities are investing in the MCC Foundation endowment, where a portion of the interest is then used to meet college needs. Annual Campaign — MCC Foundation's annual campaign ensures quality support and programming, and guarantee that the educational opportunities at MCC are available for future generations. Scholarships — Financial assistance in the form of scholarships can make the critical difference for scores of students by helping them meet their financial obligations. Awards in honor of donors or loved ones can be created with criteria based on academic achievement, financial need, service to the college and community, or a combination. Sponsorship of Events — For more information about program sponsorships or annual events, contact Endia DeCordova at 860-512-2902 or edecordova@manchestercc.edu. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES There are many opportunities at MCC for students, alumni and community members to volunteer their time where their experience and skills can provide a valuable contribution to student success. These include mentoring, tutoring and assisting with planning, preparation and execution of various events.
