It is a member of Hartford HealthCare. Among its divisions is the Institute of Living, a 114-bed mental health facility with an international reputation of excellence, and Jefferson House, a 104-bed long-term care facility. Major centers of clinical excellence include cardiology, oncology, emergency services and trauma, mental health, women's health, orthopaedics, bloodless surgery, and advanced organ transplantation. The hospital is at the forefront of robotic surgery with eight da Vinci surgical robots, and it operates the state's first air ambulance system, LIFE STAR. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES The Black & Red is Hartford Hospital's signature fund-raiser. Since 1992, through sponsorships and ticket sales, the evening of dining and entertainment has raised more than $10 million to benefit hospital programs. The 2016 gala, scheduled for February 6 at The Bushnell and featuring Chicago, will benefit the Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital. Through fundraising events, the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary provides gifts to the hospital community totaling several hundred thousand dollars each year. In addition, community fund-raising events, ranging from golf tournaments to road races, directly support the services the hospital provides to the community. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES We are broadening our facilities and resources to meet the demands of the rapidly changing healthcare environment. The capstone of this plan is a state-of-the-art Bone & Joint Institute. Designed to be the premier musculoskeletal center in the region, the institute will transform care while increasing the hospital's value to the larger patient population. The institute's new home will free up space across campus, allowing modernization of operating rooms and intensive care units and enabling an increase in private rooms from the current 55 percent to over 75 percent. The hospital is mounting a major capital campaign to raise the dollars required to fund the Bone & Joint Institute and to renovate the Brownstone community clinic and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation, among other critical clinical areas. The campaign planning committee, chaired by George Estes, has begun seeking early gifts. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Nearly 1,200 people volunteer in 241 areas of the hospital and the Institute of Living. They perform nearly 106,000 hours of service, equivalent to 52 full-time employees and more than $3 million in salaries. BOARD OF DIRECTORS " " T he evolution of Hartford Hospital over the past few decades has been transformative. It has expanded in strategic areas, positioning itself for a vital future even in the wake of the rapid changes in the healthcare environment. Its network of community medical centers has increased dramatically and the link between inpatient and outpatient services has never been stronger. I support Hartford Hospital because of its importance and devotion to the community. – George Estes , Chairman, Steering Committee, Campaign for Hartford Hospital In 2015 LIFE STAR celebrated 30 years of helping to save lives. Since its launch in 1985, the state's first critical care helicopter service has transported more than 20,000 people to tertiary care facilities within its 150-mile response radius; approximately 1,200 patients are transported annually. LIFE STAR crews consist of a flight nurse, flight respiratory therapist, pilot, mechanic, and a communication specialist.
