G I V I N G G U I D E 2015 www.HartfordBusiness.com December 15, 2015 • Hartford Business Journal 13 ABOUT US Year established: 1898 Annual revenues: $15 million (most recent fiscal year) Total number of employees: 28 GEOGRAPHIC SERVICE AREA(S) The American Red Cross Connecticut Chapter serves more than 3.5 million Connecticut residents in Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland and Windham counties; two Tribal Nations; and Fishers Island, N.Y. TOP FUNDING SOURCES Corporate Donations: 36% Individual Donations: 40% Foundation Donations: 11% United Way: 3% Planned Giving: 6% Special Events: 1% The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors — across the street, across the country, and across the world — in emergencies. Each year, across the nation in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors — the more than half a million volunteers and more than 31,000 employees of the Red Cross for help. An average of more than 7 million people a year receive Red Cross training in first aid, water safety and other skills that help save lives. In Connecticut, we helped victims of more than 850 disasters with a team of 28 paid and more than 3,000 volunteer staff. We reached more than 67,000 people with training in First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard training, Babysitter training, Community Disaster Education programs and more. We are also actively installing free smoke alarms across the state as part of the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to home fires. In addition, we helped nearly 600 Connecticut military families with emergency communications, counseling services and emergency financial assistance. And our volunteers supported thousands of blood drives where more than 120,000 units of life-saving blood were collected. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES The American Red Cross has special events throughout the year. You can support our statewide events by sponsoring or attending our Red, White & YOU Ball or our Fairfield County Heroes Breakfast. Donations of live and silent auction items for our Red White & YOU Ball are also welcome. For more information about events, contact Melissa Fazzio at (860) 678- 6724 or melissa.fazzio@redcross.org. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Financial donations are the best way to support the work of the American Red Cross. We turn your dollars into compassionate response at an average of more than 500 local disasters in Connecticut each year, providing emotional support, shelter and help with emergency food, clothing and household needs for families displaced by emergencies and disasters. Your donations also support community disaster preparedness education and support of military families. Donations may also be made in support of national disaster relief services. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The Red Cross offers numerous volunteer opportunities. Opportunities include local and national disaster response, community preparedness education, support of blood drives, administrative support and assisting with special events. If the position requires training, we will provide it, free of charge. Red Cross volunteer Larry Berman installs a free smoke alarm as part of the Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Program.
