Alzheimer's disease is the 6th leading cause of death and of the top ten the only one without prevention, treatment or a cure. The Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter is the primary source of information and support to the 73,000 residents of Connecticut living with the effects of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and the 177,000 unpaid caregivers. With offices across the state in Norwalk, Norwich, New Milford, Hamden and our main office in Southington, we are able to offer our communities 24/7 multilingual Helpline support, Family Training Seminars, Care Consultation, Safe Return training, Support Groups and Educational programs for both healthcare professionals and caregivers. The Chapter has influenced Public Policy changes and has provided support to dementia research in the hope of finding a cure. GOALS • Increase fundraising for care and support and research. • Increase awareness of our programs and services to those living with or caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease. • Partner with different organizations to achieve a common goal • Work toward the National Alzheimer's plan for a treatment or cure by 2025 • Continue to work to make policy change for those living with the disease FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Walk to End Alzheimer's® — The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and 6 locations in Connecticut in the fall, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions. The Longest Day — The Longest Day is a team event to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association®. Held annually on the summer solstice, the duration of this sunrise-to- sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers. Teams are encouraged to create their own experience as they fundraise and participate in an activity they love to honor someone facing the disease. The next Longest Day will be held on June 20, 2016. The Brain Ball — Where Science Meets Compassion. Our community's most influential and respected political, business and social leaders come together to champion the fight against Alzheimer's disease and bring visibility to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter. March 5, 2016 at the Connecticut Science Center. Celebrating Hope — an annual cocktail party held in Greenwich. The event brings together those who have been confronted with Alzheimer's disease and are joined together by hope. The event raises awareness and funds for the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter. To be held in April 2016 at l'escale at the Delmar Hotel in Greenwich.
