G I V I N G G U I D E 2015 www.HartfordBusiness.com December 15, 2015 • Hartford Business Journal 17 ABOUT US Year established: 1971 Annual revenues: $200,000 (most recent fiscal year) Total number of employees: 1 GEOGRAPHIC SERVICE AREA(S) Hartford area TOP FUNDING SOURCES As we transition to our new organization, our funding sources will change. In the past, we supported area nonprofits with investment income from our endowment. We have just started fund raising activities with companies, private donors, and grants. In the greater Hartford area, demand for services is growing at a time when educational funding is tight. Schools are simply no longer institutions of learning; they have become providers of basic human needs and centers for stability and hope. Schools are often unable to meet the needs of too many of their students. For over 50 years the Capital City Education Alliance (CCEA), formerly the Greater Hartford Jaycees Foundation, has funneled over $16 million to area nonprofits. Today, with our new identity and our education-focused mission, we will continue to play a powerful role in the area. The CCEA will generate and distribute resources through matching funds to community educational organizations, while providing programming and volunteers to make a real difference in the lives of children. We believe that investing in our students today, ensures a better city and a better world for tomorrow GOALS • Build brand awareness of our new name and focus • License and test market a nonprofit successfully operating in a city similar to Hartford • Engage individuals to participate in our new programming • Start building relationships with corporate entities that could provide funding and/or volunteers • Continue to develop relationships with educational organizations around the greater Hartford area for potential collaboration • Continue to support area nonprofits through our silent auction ticket donation program GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Our expected licensing arrangement will require in-kind contributions of paint and painting supplies as well as meal donations for program participants. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES We are looking for groups of 10-15 people who would like to volunteer as a team one Saturday morning for about 4 hours. Team volunteerism can help build strong interpersonal connections with workers while providing a mentoring opportunity with students. We recognize that many individuals are very busy and this provides the perfect opportunity for episodic volunteerism — volunteer when it is convenient for you, not on some set schedule.
