54 Hartford Business Journal • December 15, 2015 www.HartfordBusiness.com This scholarship impacted my life in many ways. I was a single mother, working full-time and helping to put my daughter though college while I was also trying to complete my own education at Trinity College. This scholarship allowed me to continue my own studies. I graduated magna cum laude, with honors in history in 2013. I am now in my third year at University of Connecticut Law School — attending nights, of course! ~ Jean Silverio As a first generation college student, breaking the mold was incredibly challenging. I worked tirelessly to pay for school. My two Town and County Club scholarships provided me financial assistance when I needed it most. I graduated in May 2015 from the Hartt School of the University of Hartford with a Bachelor of Music. I now give back by teaching nearly 400 students every week at the Goodwin College Early Childhood Magnet School. Only time will tell the full ripple impact of what the Town and County Scholarships have done. ~ Camille Camire THE TOWN and COUNTY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP FUND A fund at The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving For more information regarding the Town and County Club Scholarship, please visit us at: www.towncounty.com I am a grateful double recipient of the Town and County Club Scholarship which enabled me to complete my education at the University of Saint Joseph in 2014. In 2015 I graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. I am now employed as a clinician at the Village for Families and Children, providing specialized care to families with young children struggling with trauma. ~ Princess Russell-Blidgen I knew I would need an education to provide a better life for my two children. I felt empowered and passionate to further my studies, but my finances were strained. I was blessed to receive two scholarships from the Town and County Club. I received my first scholarship while a part-time student at Manchester Community College and the second one when I was a student at the University of Connecticut – Hartford, enabling me to earn my BS in Human Development and Family Studies in May 2015. ~ Michelle Wallen Recognizing the value of a college education to a woman's ability to meet her personal and professional goals and to achieve financial independence, we created this scholarship fund over 15 years ago to assist Hartford-area women aged 24 or older who are actively pursuing an undergraduate college degree at a college in the Greater Hartford area. To date, over $175,000 in scholarship awards have been awarded to 84 deserving women. We take great pride in the dedication, hard work and success of these women, the majority of whom were both working and raising a family as they pursued their education. Here are a few of their stories: THE TOWN and COUNTY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP FUND
