Continue to expand the Young Athletes Program serving children with intellectual disabilities ages two through seven. • Establish and steward partnerships between corporations, their employees and families, and Special Olympics Connecticut to gain support through volunteerism, and financial and in-kind contributions. • Offer the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Program at all major competitions to provide health screenings for athletes and such necessities as eyeglasses, hearing aids and orthotics. • Continue to increase the number of Special Olympics Unified Sports® Fitness Clubs statewide which focus on participation rather than competition and bring together individuals of all abilities to engage in regular physical activity that improves overall fitness and wellness. • Grow, strengthen and support our 72 volunteer-run Local Programs in Connecticut communities. • Attract, train and certify highly qualified coaches and officials to assist with year-round sports training and competitions. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Special Olympics Connecticut hosts several fundraising events a year, the largest being: Law Enforcement Torch Run — A three-day running event where officers and athletes carry the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope" through more than 100 cities and towns to the site of the Opening Ceremonies for Special Olympics' Summer Games. The Torch Run also encompasses a variety of fundraising initiatives, such as Tip-A-Cop and Cop-On-Top events. Penguin Plunge — Individuals and teams jump in the chilly waters of Connecticut to raise funds for Special Olympics Connecticut. Events take place in five locations across the state, January through March. Over the Edge — Individuals rappel down one of Connecticut's most prominent buildings to raise awareness and funding for Special Olympics Connecticut athletes.
