G I V I N G G U I D E 2015 www.HartfordBusiness.com December 15, 2015 • Hartford Business Journal 49 Established in memory of Ron Foley, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in 2005, the Foundation bearing his name is dedicated to promoting early detection and, ultimately, finding a cure through ongoing research. Inspiration for the first fundraising event — a Kentucky Derby party in 2009 — came when those closest to Ron felt they could harness the generosity of his spirit to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research. Encouraged by the success of that initial Derby Day gathering, and with the support of family, friends and dedicated volunteers, Ron's widow, Barbara Foley, formed the Foundation, which was granted 501(c)3 status in 2010. GOALS • Facilitate a collaborative partnership between major Connecticut hospitals, cancer centers and research facilities to pursue shared research of pancreatic cancer. • Aggressively seek increased donations to the "Ron's Rescue Fund" so that we can give more financial aid to Connecticut pancreatic cancer patients and broaden our reach to those in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey. • Initiate an annual lecture series for the general public featuring presenters with expertise about pancreatic cancer. • Collaborate with other pancreatic cancer non-profits across the country and internationally who share our goals of improving diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer and ultimately finding a cure. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Ron's Run for the Roses is the Foundation's signature fundraising event — a Kentucky Derby day afternoon gala held at Folly Farm, a beautiful equestrian center in Simsbury. Since its inception in the Foley family's backyard in 2009 with 75 guests, the event has grown to more than 450 guests at this year's event and has raised more than $1,000,000 over the past seven years. A major element of the event is raising money for the Foundation's Ron's Rescue Fund. Established in 2012, donations to this restricted fund are dedicated solely to providing financial assistance to patients fighting pancreatic cancer and to help alleviate any financial burdens. Hailed as the "premier Connecticut Derby Day event', the 8th annual Ron's Run for the Roses is on May 7, 2016 and will feature southern fare, Derby-style fashion, live and silent auctions and the live viewing of the Kentucky Derby on a 10 foot screen. Sponsorship opportunities at various levels are available for corporations, businesses, Foundations and individuals. Premium tables and individual tickets are also available. We also welcome donations of items for our auctions, in-kind donations of products and services for the event as well as people who would like to volunteer in our office or at our events. For more information, please contact the Foundation at info@ronsrun.org or 860-521-0500. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES The Foundation welcomes donations throughout the year including but not limited to the following: • Corporate and business sponsorships • Giving through United Way Campaigns • Corporate Giving and Matching Gift Programs • Contributions In Memory/Honor of Loved Ones • Endowments and Legacy Giving with the Ron Foley Foundation noted as benefactor • Donation of shares of stock. For more information, please contact Janney Montgomery Scott LLC at 860-561-6374 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES The Foundation is an all volunteer-based organization, therefore volunteer opportunities vary in so many ways including office support, event planning, set-up, and grant writing. In 2016, we will be looking for athletes and runners to participate in the Hartford Marathon to raise money for the Foundation. Our mission is to fund medical research leading to improve diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer and find a cure for this terrible disease. We are also committed to raising public awareness of pancreatic cancer through education and providing direct financial aid to pancreatic cancer patients in need. BOARD OF DIRECTORS " " P ancreatic cancer is such a devastating diagnosis, that there is really no way a family can possibly prepare for it. It is an awful combination of fear and emotional and financial stress that can easily seem overwhelming. The one bright spot in this journey so far has been our discovery that so many people are willing to help. As we face this challenge, it has been a great comfort not to face it alone. The gift from the Ron Foley Foundation is going to make it possible for me to keep my family living with the utilities necessary for life today. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. – William Owen , Norwich, CT Pancreatic cancer patient, Ron's Rescue recipient Volunteers Tim Floyd, Chris Gent, and Nancy Wall at Ron's Run for the Roses 2015.
