G I V I N G G U I D E 2015 www.HartfordBusiness.com December 15, 2015 • Hartford Business Journal 41 The Jordan Porco Foundation provides mental health awareness and suicide prevention programming for teenagers and young adults. We form partnerships with high schools, two and four year colleges and universities, the military, community organizations, foundations and leading prevention providers to deliver programs that increase awareness of the mental health resources and services available to students. Our goal is to reduce the stigma and misconceptions around mental health and suicide that often deter individuals from seeking help, empower peers to be gatekeepers by understanding the warning signs and knowing what to do if a friend is exhibiting signs of suicide or a mental health concern and increase willingness to ask for help if experiencing emotional distress. Since our inception, tens of thousands of students have engaged in our programming resulting in thousands of depression screenings that have helped identify at risk individuals and led to treatment. GOALS • Engage more students in peer to peer support efforts creating communities of inclusiveness. • Further reduce the stigma associated with mental health and suicide and increase help seeking behaviors. • Form additional partnerships with leading prevention organizations to compound the impact of our work. • More than double the number of schools and students participating in our programs and services. • Increase advocacy efforts to enact legislation supporting suicide prevention training. • Continue our national expansion to ensure greater visibility of our messaging. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES The Jordan Porco Foundation holds several fundraising events annually that offer plenty of opportunities to be involved in supporting the work of the organization. Whether it's a Together at the Table dinner event or our annual Jordan's Journey Gala celebration at the Mohegan Sun, we welcome your participation. Our events offer nationally renowned mental health subject matter experts with personal experiences that engage audiences in a profound way. The positive feedback we consistently receive from those involved in our events inspires us to work even harder to reach more students and save more lives.
