Natick company brings secure tex- ting to hospitals Interbit Data, of Natick, has created a program that it says will allow for speedi- er interactions through secure texting while still protecting patient information. The company has launched NetRelay, a product that provides secure texting and other automated HIPAA-compliant mes- sage delivery. NetRelay integrates with Healthcare Information System (HCIS) applications, taking any data from those systems and turning it into a secure mes- sage that is delivered to mobile devices. According to NetRelay, this kind of communication can increase efficiency. United Way elects new officers and directors The United Way of North Central Massachusetts has elected new officers and directors that will oversee the organi- zation's volunteer programs and distribu- tion of funds throughout Central Massachusetts. Doug Petersen, president and CEO of Workers' Credit Union, has been elected chair for a one-year term ending 2016, with Win Brown, president and CEO of Heywood Hospital, to serve as vice chair. New directors of the organization, being brought on for three-year terms include Hometown Bank President and CEO Mike Hewitt, HealthAlliance Hospital President and CEO Deb Weymouth, Superintendent of Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School Sheila Harrity, and Susannah Whipps Lee of Whipps, Inc. Elected as new ex-officio directors to one-year terms expiring 2016: Jeanette Robichaud, agency representative, Athol Area YMCA; and Donata Martin, agency representative, Boys & Girls Club of Fitchburg & Leominster. Saint Vincent adds online ER check-in Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester has added online self-scheduling that will allow those using the emergency depart- ment or urgent care to wait at home until their estimated treatment time. This new service allows two-click scheduling from any device, at any hour for emergency services. It is not a reservation service but is designed to give estimated treatment times based on available resources and allows prospective patients to wait from home, rather than the waiting room, according to the hospital. The location has four indoor tennis courts and six outdoor red clay courts as well as outdoor and indoor pools and a new fitness center. WPI receives $886K big data grant The Worcester Polytechnic Institute received an $885,834 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to bolster the school's research and teaching related to big data computing. The grant is part of the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program that focuses on enhancing the nation's capacity for com- puter science research and teaching. At WPI, it will go towards six need-based scholarships for computer science doc- torate students, who will study big data computing. This investment reflects a growing need nationwide for people who can educate others in computer science. Rectrix Aviation opens Worcester Airport location Rectrix Commercial Aviation Services has opened a $5 million aerodrome to serve as a base of operations for private jets chartered out of Worcester Airport. The fixed base operator will operate a 50,000-square-foot hanger space at the airport, which includes just under 20,000 square feet of heated indoor hangar space and 10,000 square feet of office space. In addition to offering concierge services, a flight planning room and pilots' lounge, Rectrix will also have repair services at the Worcester location. The company said that it can accommodate any large corporate aircraft. n
