Fostering a business-friendly atmosphere takes a vil- lage, but leading the charge in Marlborough are two key players: Mayor Arthur Vigeant and Susanne Morreale Leeber, president and CEO of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce. An accountant and small business owner, Vigeant is a lifelong Marlborough resident. He served on the City Council for nine consecutive terms before he was elected mayor in 2011. As he promised when running for office, Vigeant has been a strong advocate for the business community and regularly acts as a liaison between the City Council members and businesses looking to locate and expand in Marlborough. He's also actively engaged with the Marlborough Economic Development Corp., the city's business devel- opment arm. Leeber has led the Marlborough Regional Chamber for 29 years, making her an expert on business issues impacting Marlborough and neighboring communities. Representing about 650 members ranging from small companies to major corporations, Leeber's institutional insight on economic peaks and valleys through the years create valuable perspective on how to leverage opportu- nities during Marlborough's current upswing. — Emily Micucci Title: Mayor Company: City of Marlborough Location: Marlborough Arthur Vigeant & Susanne Morreale Leeber L eading research and public health outreach efforts both locally and globally, the University of Massachusetts Medical School does much more than educate medical students. It's a catalyst for myriad projects, from Ebola response efforts to projects aimed at improving health care for veterans and public health initiatives in Greater Worcester. Bringing all the pieces together is Chancellor Michael F. Collins, a physician who was hired as interim chancellor in 2007 before his official appointment in 2008. Formerly chancellor of the UMass Boston and president and CEO of the Caritas Christi Health Care System, Collins has an eye for innovation. Among his latest ventures is the planned formation of a regional clinical campus in Springfield in partnership with Baystate Health, the dominant provider in that region, which will allow the school to grow its class size from 125 to 150. Under Collins, UMass Medical School also announced this year it will begin accepting out-of-state students for the first time, beginning next year. - Emily Micucci Title: Chancellor Company: University of Massachusetts Medical School Location: Worcester Michael F.
