Pinza steps down as managing partner after six years in the position. Pinza, who oversaw the relocation of the fi rm's headquarters to Portland's waterfront and managed the launch of the Providence, R.I., offi ce, will be replaced by David E. Barry, an attorney who has been with the fi rm for nearly 30 years. Barry, who lives in Portland, most recently led the fi rm's litigation group. Barry said he will view his new role more as continuing the fi rm's direction than any change of strategy. "I'm sure there will be differences in my approach, but really, from my stand- point, there will be continuity with respect to our core values and our core approach to serving clients," Barry told Mainebiz. The firm has about 75 attorneys at its office on Commercial Street in Portland and about 140 attorneys spread out over all of its offi ces, which include Augusta; Boston; Portsmouth, N.H.; Providence, R.I.; Washington, D.C.; and Stockholm, Sweden. Barry said the fi rm doesn't currently have any plans to expand into addi- tional locations with new offi ces, but it would be thoughtful about any possible opportunities. The fi rm will instead seek to growth within its existing markets and based on its clients' needs. As the fi rm continues to grow, he said some of his most important respon- sibilities will be to maintain the culture of the fi rm and continue its formula for success of serving clients and providing creative solutions to them. Barry, who has been with Pierce Atwood since 1988, said he'll still be avail- able to clients, but his principal focus will be managing the fi rm. He'll also be stepping down as the chair of the fi rm's litigation practice group. "I expect that I will miss the practice and focus on litigation that I've had since I started practicing," Barry said. "But also, after litigating for nearly 30 years, I really do look forward to the new challenges and different challenges that are going to be mine as I move into this new role for Pierce Atwood." Pinza said in a statement said she's pleased to be turning the reins over to Barry and that Barry understands the fi rm and what its clients need and expects. "I've been honored to be the managing partner of Pierce Atwood for seven years and am very proud of what we've accomplished during that period," she said. Pinza will continue as a partner in the fi rm. — P a u l K o e n i g P H O T O / C O U R T E S Y P I E R C E AT WO O D L L P David E.
