The Worcester housing market has been ranked among the most affordable in the state, according to a home-listing report from Coldwell Banker Real Estate. The housing report ranks the afford- ability of communities' housing based on listings of four-bedroom, two-bathroom homes throughout over 2,700 markets in the country. While other reports rank the median cost of homes, this reports meth- odology gives a picture of what a similar home costs in each community. New Bedford was found to be the most affordable in Massachusetts, at $164,723, while Worcester was ranked eighth with an average price of $240,889. Quest to acquire Connecticut lab Quest Diagnostics has agreed to acquire Hartford-based Clinical Laboratory Partners, a subsidiary of Hartford HealthCare, for an undisclosed amount of money. Quest said in a statement that the deal will enhance access to laboratory services for Connecticut residents served by Hartford HealthCare's five hospitals. Clinical Laboratory Partners, or CLP, acts as the clinical outreach lab service for Hartford Healthcare. Under the agreement, CLP will transi- tion laboratory testing now provided in Newington, Conn., to Quest's rapid- response clinical laboratories in Stratford, Torrington and Wallingford, Conn.; and full-service, state-of-the-art clinical labo- ratory in Marlborough. The acquisition also includes several CLP service centers and other assets. The deal is expected to close early next year. Physician group affiliate opens Worcester urgent care site AFC Doctors Express, the urgent-care services company that is partnering with the Central Massachusetts Independent Physicians Association (CMIPA) to pro- vide urgent care to its patients, opened its first Worcester location. The new clinic is at 117a Stafford St. A partnership with the CMIPA, which represents 170 independent doctors in Central Massachusetts, was announced earlier this year. The partnership is simi- lar to the one between UMass Memorial Health Care and CareWell Urgent Care, which recently opened two sites in the city. Charles River to re-open Shrewsbury lab Charles River Laboratories will re- open a Shrewsbury lab that has been shuttered since 2010 with a mixture of new and transplanted jobs. The research-services company has announced the South Street facility will reopen in the first quarter of 2016. Girl Scouts hold to $4 a box Bucking a national trend of climbing prices, the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts have decided to maintain $4 a box for the popular product linked to the organization's financial liter- acy program. The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEM) recently announced a price increase to $5 a box, marking the first price increase in eight years, according to the organization. The decision was made to allow more members to participate in leadership programs, according to a release from the GSEM. However, the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts (GSCWM) decided to maintain their $4 a box price, as each of the 112 local councils nation- wide are able to set their price based on their market, according to Dana Carnegie, community relations manager for GSCWM. >> Continued on Page 6
