www.wbjournal.com November 9, 2015 • Worcester Business Journal 3 Most everybody knows what it takes to be successful, but for a variety of reasons, most don't pursue those steps. Whether it is perceived insurmountable obstacles, con- cerns over how others will feel or a lack of initiative, people and organizations have a difficult time shifting out of neutral. If Worcester ever wants a professional baseball team playing in a new downtown stadium, city officials are going to have to get out of their own way. On page 10, Staff Writer Sam Bonacci dissects what it would take to entice a team like a Pawtucket Red Sox to the city (hint: it's $50 million). While the team may be interested, city officials seem to be shooting themselves in the foot by immediately saying they won't commit any public funds to a stadium development. In this week's cover feature, Staff Writer Emily Micucci talks to hospitals big and small about the price disparity in the health care market. Even though they would seemingly benefit from a decrease in that disparity, the region's community hospitals are maintaining the industry line by opposing any regulation. I am not a big fan of the regulation either, but why would hospitals take a stance that appears detrimental to their bottom line? On page 20, Correspondent Livia Gershon pursues Massachusetts' options for electricity now that the Pilgrim Nuclear Generation Station is set to close. While poor economics led to the planned closure, protests calling for the shutdown of a facility providing a significant portion of the region's emissions- free electricity couldn't have helped. Now, the best option for replacing that lost electricity — natural gas — is being protested.
