Seniors to soon find an Oasis at Dodge Park W ith the Affordable Care Act has come a lot of change and challenge for employers, healthcare providers, and healthcare consum- ers. Everyone is feeling the impact of a system in transition. I recently participated as a panel member at a healthcare forum hosted by this publication. I heard many employers express frustration over the challenges of affording health insurance for their employees in the face of rising costs and complicated regulations. In the course of the discussion, it became clear that employers don't necessarily view healthcare providers as partners in their efforts to keep health insurance afford- able and bend the healthcare cost curves. Em- ployers view their partners as insurance brokers and health insurance companies. Together they tackle benefit design and rising benefit costs. In fact, healthcare providers are integral to any effort to control health benefit costs. For example, employers can design benefits around networks of physicians. And when employers incentivize their employees to use physician networks with proven track records for deliver- ing high-quality care in a cost-effective manner, everyone wins. In the future, I believe that healthcare provid- ers and employers will find new ways to partner around employee health and benefit design. We have not yet begun to explore the possibilities. We are constantly developing new programs and initiatives to ensure our patients are receiving the right care at the right time and place. Health care at home is a critical compo- nent of an innovative, comprehensive, and com- munity-based health care delivery system. With advancements in behavioral health, telemonitor- ing, population health management, and pallia- tive and end-of-life care, home health and hos- pice is favorable for many as an alternative to higher cost, institutional settings.
