www.wbjournal.com October 26, 2015 • Worcester Business Journal 3 This issue marks the seventh time Worcester Business Journal has handed out its Outstanding Women in Business awards to a class of worthy women making a dif- ference in business and the community. Judging by feedback, website views and event turnout, OWIB (the affectionate acronym we give it at the office) is the sec- ond most popular of all of WBJ's awards, right after 40 Under Forty. They join a slew of other awards we hand out during the year, including Top Workplaces, Best of Business, Family Business Awards and Business Leaders of the Year. In my past life as a daily newspaper reporter, several of my col- leagues would have scoffed at the idea of a journalism publication shelling out a half dozen awards to more than 100 honorees every year (unless, of course, my colleagues were the ones receiving the awards). To me, though, newspapers and magazines are much more than a place to read about the news of the day. We are thought leaders in the communities we serve. For WBJ, that means being an important and thoughtful participant in the Greater Worcester business community. While that means providing our audience with up-to-the- minute news and necessary business intelligence for them to thrive in this community, it also means taking a step back every now and again to recognize those exceptional few for the out- standing contributions they make to the people that we serve. Just like all our awards, you will find this year's 2015 Outstanding Women in Business more than deserving of the honor. - Brad Kane, editor This Week In The WBJ Worcester Business Journal (ISSN#1063- 6595) is published bi-weeky, 24x per year, including 5 special issues in April, July, September, November and December, by New Engand Business Media. 172 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, MA 01604.
