Worcester CAT III ILS upgrades.
It's the most advanced antidote to fl ight disruptions.
Weather and geography have given Worcester Regional Airport (ORH) some unique
challenges. With a recent groundbreaking event and a completion date by Fall 2017,
this new technology will transform those challenges into opportunities.
Once completed, the Category III instrument landing system will allow operations
in virtually all weather conditions at ORH, including near-zero visibility. CAT III is the
highest-level FAA technology available for landing in low visibility. It will make Worcester
Regional Airport the equal of any nearby airport in these weather conditions.
Massport's committed, long-term investment in the success of ORH has many
benefi ts, such as:
• Minimize fl ight disruptions and diversions in low visibility
• Encourage more travelers to choose ORH
• Provide passengers in the region with a more reliable, sustainable
local airport option
As we address the region's unique weather challenges, Massport is also building an
enduring climate of growth in Central Massachusetts. The $30 million CAT III upgrade is
part of $100 million we're investing in ORH. In ten years, a more robust, reliable Worcester
Regional Airport is predicted to generate over $350 million in economic activity.
In two years, JetBlue has already fl own over 200,000 passengers via Worcester.
Air travel in Central Massachusetts is beginning to take off.
