Family businesses have a very unique problem as many successful family-owned and operated businesses do not survive suc- cession. Fortunately, here in Connecticut, we have the University of New Haven, which has a wonderful Center for Family Business that is a unique resource for family-owned busi- nesses of all sizes. We have been a charter member for the last 22 years and strongly rec- ommend its services. The state of Connecti- cut needs to change. The state needs to work on lowering the cost of doing business in the state so that family businesses of all sizes can be competitive with our neighboring states. What is the one family value you want passed onto each generation in your business? Love what you do, share the spotlight with your family members, set your goals, stay focused on your objectives, and build lasting relationships. n (Top) Saybrook Point Inn & Spa employees commemo- rate the company's 25th anniversary.
