SERVICE LOCATION(S) Waldo County, MaineCare Transportation reimbursement for Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Waldo counties as well as the municipalities of Brunswick and Harpswell. 2016 GOALS Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP) provides leadership and advo- cacy in the community to collaborate and develop programs and workgroups that address community problems and obstacles that prevent families from thriving. Alleviation of poverty is our ultimate goal and service and advocacy are the primary tools. We provide programs and services to support members of our community as they strive to lead meaningful and productive lives. We have strong commit- ments to Transportation Services, Housing Repair Services, Family Services such as Head Start/Child Nutrition, Energy Services and Community Services carried out in partnership with other community groups. Overall, we are dedicated to striving toward providing win-win solutions for clients, staff , volunteers and the community as a whole with a "no wrong door" policy, in order to fi nd viable options so that no person goes unserved. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES e 3rd annual WCAP Heroes 4 Hunger 5k Race/Walk will be held in the spring. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of 36 tons of food, to be used to fi ll 2,000 boxes set to be delivered to Waldo County residents in need during the cold fall and winter months. Households receive an 11-pound turkey and all the traditional fi xings to prepare a nutritional holiday meal in each box. More information will be available on the WCAP Facebook page. e fall season is the time for our Annual Appeal to businesses and indi- viduals whereby we seek donations to our many programs serving people in poverty. We also accept donations of stock. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES As a community action program that has been working to address poverty for the past 50 years, we know that the partnerships we have in the community with individuals who donate their time, money and caring are what keep us strong and inspired. Donations to WCAP mean pencils in the hands of Head Start students, food on the tables of underprivileged families, heating oil in the tanks of low- income residents, transportation for those without proper means to medical appointments such as cancer treatments and dialysis, repair and weatherization to homes of the needy. Individual contributions can be made any time throughout the year through the mail, by visiting WCAP in person or by visiting www.waldocap.org and clicking on the "Donate to WCAP" button. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES f Help your Waldo County neighbors by driving to medical appointments, shop- ping, work or Head Start. Volunteers are reimbursed $0.44 per vehicle mile. f Assist Head Start teachers in the classroom with a variety of activities, such as serving lunch or enforcing playground safety. f Help pack 36 tons of food for families in need during the holiday season. Volunteers arrive at the distribution site at 6 a.m. on two specifi ed dates. f Break out your magic wand and volunteer as a "Fairy Godmother," usually the fi rst Saturday each April. Help high school girls select the perfect prom gown and off er mentorship in support of positive body image.
