With over 30 programs, we strive to restore hope to children, young adults, veterans, seniors, people living with mental illness and those living in poverty. SERVICE LOCATION(S) Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont with programs and services in 25-plus communities in Maine. Volunteers of America Northern New England 2016 GOALS To serve the most vulnerable in Maine with high quality services, while provid- ing an incredible place to work for our employees. We will enhance our finan- cial and organizational strength, create a vibrant ministry, be innovative in our approach, tell our client's stories and engage businesses and the community in our mission because our clients are counting on us to be strong and effective. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Our focus is not on fund-raising events. We do encourage businesses to help us provide meals to the seniors living in our affordable housing facilities; to give money to our Angel Fund, which provides for the extra things clients need that our government funding won't allow (such as supplies to start school or bus tickets to get to work); and to support our work to develop more affordable housing for seniors, veterans and families. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Camp POSTCARD – Each year we raise the funding to send 150 kids in need from all over Maine to attend camp. e leaders are all law enforce- ment officers. Visit our website and click on the Camp POSTCARD video (www.voanne.org/camp-postcard) to learn more. It changes their lives. Supporters can sponsor a child for $400 or help to collect the in-kind items needed – 20 new sleeping bags, pillows, shoes, etc. for children who do not have anything when they arrive at camp. Cabin in the Woods for Homeless Veterans – We are developing 20 cabins and a community center on the grounds of Togus for homeless veterans and their families. Opportunities to get involved include sponsoring a cabin or a room in the community center or furnishing and decorating a cabin once built. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES f Our senior houses are always interested in entertaining and informative guests. Performers, teachers or workshop presenters will be greeted with a welcoming and appreciative audience. f Our annual week-long Camp POSTCARD recruits many volunteers to work in the kitchen, register campers and help out with other tasks. f Our free Tax Preparation Program (CA$H Coalition) will provide training for volunteer tax preparers for low-income Mainers. f Hundreds of volunteers provide support to our Veterans' Services programs. f Many of our properties have lovely grounds and gardens, thanks to corporate and individual volunteers. f For teens, we have Action teams in four Maine high schools and we help all teens to complete their community service hours for graduation.
