Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland 2016 GOALS We are excited for 2016, as we complete the construction of our new, state-of- the-art sheltering facility. e Arthur P. Girard Adoption Center will become a destination for animal adoption and community programming. Our new facility will provide us the space, services and programs to further our efforts to retrain, rehabilitate and rehome nearly 4,000 Greater Portland animals annu- ally. e new ARLGP will allow us to extend our offerings to our communities and serve our animals to the best of our ability. We will also continue to advocate for adoption awareness and humane treatment of animals. By continuing to offer programs and services to our community, we can ensure that animals are happy and healthy in their homes. We will also continue our discussion of proper pet care and responsible pet ownership of animals with children in our communities through our Humane Education outreach programming. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES e ARLGP hosts and participates in hundreds of events, fundraisers and com- munity activities every year! We host three major fundraising events every year: f Our June auction and gala, Fur Ball, is our largest fundraiser. is silent and live auc- tion raises much-needed revenue to support our facility through our peak season. f Our annual people and pet event, held every fall, celebrates humans and canines in our community! More than 300 people and their pooches gather to enjoy a wide-variety of activity and fun. f Our Holiday Craft Fair and Open House kicks the holiday season off with tails wagging. Held in early December, this event includes handmade items from local artisans, Christmas trees and wreaths, pet photos with Santa and lots of holiday cheer. Corporate support and community engagement are critical to the success of our events and fundraisers. Please visit www.arlgp.org for a full list of upcom- ing events and community activities. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES f Corporate sponsorships of ARLGP events are available, which present local businesses an opportunity for high-visibility and community engagement. f Direct-mail appeals in January, March, June, October and December, as well as giving opportunities online and in-person, directly support the care of nearly 4,000 animals we care for every year. f In-kind donations of shelter supplies and pet food to assist with daily opera- tions and animal care are always appreciated. f Cage sponsorships provide community members an opportunity to name an animal kennel at the ARLGP and provide funds for the care and treatment of the animals it houses. f Off-site adoption locations are needed to host our adoptable pets to encour- age pet adoption in our community and increase our visibility. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES f Our Shelter Helpers team has over 250 volunteers who assist with our daily animal care activities such as dog walking, cage cleaning, grooming, socializ- ing and feeding. Volunteers are always needed in this capacity. f Our Front End Friends assist with events, fundraisers, marketing, adminis- trative tasks and more – everything behind the scenes to help our shelter run smoothly and efficiently. f Our Foster Care Network is always in need of caring and devoted fami- lies able to provide animals a home for rest, recuperation, medical care and socialization. f Our Group Volunteer Program welcomes volunteers from dozens of local businesses, schools and organizations to spend a day assisting with larger, hands-on projects our facility.
