The nation's leader in CPR education training, the AHA teams with volunteers and community partners to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these diseases. SERVICE LOCATION(S) State of Maine 2016 GOALS By the year 2020, improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20%, while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20%. Some of the ways we are striving to reach this goal in Maine are: f Funding research with three active grants totaling more than $552,000 at the Maine Medical Center Research Institute and Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory. f Inspiring women to take charge of their heart health through the Maine Goes Red statewide awareness campaign in partnership with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. f Improving employee health through workplace wellness programs and national Fit Friendly Worksite recognition. Currently, 35 Maine companies receive this designation. f Teaming up with local schools to combat childhood obesity though pro- grams like Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart. f Providing science-based treatment guidelines to health care professionals to help them provide quality care to their patients with our Get With e Guidelines program. f Educating Mainers about the signs and symptoms of heart attack and stroke, teaching CPR and stressing the importance of calling 9-1-1 immediately. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES GIVING OPPORTUNITIES f Sponsor a Heart Walk, Go Red Luncheon or Gala, donate an auction item or participate on an event planning committee. f Join the Circle of Red or Red Tie Guys by making a $1,000 contribution to help combat cardiovascular disease. f Give your employees time to participate in a free, on-site Hands-Only CPR demonstration f Conduct a simple, one-day fundraising event on National Wear Red Day in February. It's a great way to raise awareness of heart disease in women while raising funds for research and education. For more information visit goredforwomen.org. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES f Lead a Heart Walk team at your company or with family and friends f Join our Maine Board of Directors f Participate in one of our event planning committees f Gather employees to help with logistics at our events f Become an AHA spokesperson.
