At Relay For Life events across Maine, communities come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back. Participants take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park or fairground. Join a family-friendly community event near you by visiting Relayforlife.org. f Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting communities with a shared determination to finish the fight against breast cancer. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES f Sponsorship of Society fundraising events sends the message that your company cares about the wellbeing of the community and is committed to finishing the fight against cancer. For more information, call (207) 373-3700. f The American Cancer Society Patient Navigator program assists patients, families and caregivers find help with the many needs that could arise during the cancer journey. Trained Patient Navigators located at Maine Medical Center's Cancer Institute and Maine General Hospital's Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care link those dealing with cancer to needed programs and resources, such as Society materials and booklets about specific cancers, transportation assistance, short-term lodging, gift cards for non-medical items, etc. Supporters are always needed to fund this important program. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES f e Society's Road to Recovery program provides cancer patients with free transportation to and from lifesaving treatments. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars so patients can get well and stay well. f Special event volunteers are needed to support the Society's fundraising opportunities by organizing, executing and participating in life-changing community events. Volunteer positions are available that match your inter- ests, offer flexible scheduling and the opportunity to learn new skills. f American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization that is working every day to make cancer issues a national priority.
