The program is free to all families, and includes on-site medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement groups are also offered for families who have had a child die of an illness supported by the program. SERVICE LOCATION(S) Since its inception in 1984, Camp Sunshine has served more than 46,000 family members from 49 states and 27 different countries. With its unique focus on the entire family, and not just the child with a life-threatening illness, Camp Sunshine has been a pioneer in the illness community, and to this day remains one of the only organizations of its kind in the world. Camp Sunshine 2016 GOALS Camp Sunshine has been providing respite and support to families of children with life-threatening illnesses, at no charge, for over 31 years. At each session the need for the program is apparent and confi rmed by the connections families create. e program has a solid foundation with exceptional management and staff . Camp Sunshine continues to receive accolades, reviews and awards from the nation's top charity and program evaluators, year after year; Camp Sunshine has received Charity Navigator's highest rating of four stars for sound fi scal management as well as a Great Nonprofi ts top rating. e organization possesses all of the ingredients for continued success. With its unique focus on the entire family, and not just the ill child, Camp Sunshine has been a pioneer in the illness community since its inception. By bringing these groups of families together, Camp Sunshine continues to build communities which foster joy, hope and support. FUNDRAISING EVENTS/OPPORTUNITIES Camp Sunshine hosts polar dips, golf tournaments, pumpkin festivals and a variety of other events, while providing support to others who organize their own events in support of Camp Sunshine. Your laser-inscribed 4" × 8" brick will have a permanent place at Camp Sunshine's campus. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Camp Sunshine staff consists almost entirely of volunteers who donate their time. More than 2,500 dedicated volunteers participate in our program each year. Many return again and again. ey help with food service, arts and crafts, recreational leadership, one-on-one assistance, child care and more. In 2014, volunteers contributed approximately 70,000 hours, saving several hundred thousands of dollars; enough money to bring several hundred families to Camp! Since 1984, more than 36,000 volunteers have generously contributed over one million hours of their valuable time. Camp Sunshine volunteers come from all walks of life. ey range in age from 16 to 80 and include doctors, nurses, social workers, teachers, business executives, high school and college students.
