HMEA provides information and referral to nearly 4,000 families and directly serves 400 children with autism through a variety of programs and services including: The Darnell School (Hudson, MA) and HMEA's Autism Resource Central (West Boylston, MA) • Significantly reduce the number of families waiting for in- home therapy services and respite for children with autism in Central Massachusetts by recruiting and employing students from Colleges in Central Massachusetts through HMEA's newest initiative, Students for Higher. The program's first partnership was established with Assumption College in September 2014. Its public launch will take place on September 22nd, 2015 at the 2nd Annual Autism Summit. • To develop and promote the creativity of our individuals through the establishment of programs such as Helping Hands Florist – HMEA (Helping Hands Make Every Arrangement). • To provide employment opportunities and skill development through employment programs such as the Bottle & Can Redemption Centers, located in Millbury, Plainville and Sterling Massachusetts. To continue to hire the best, brightest, most qualified and diverse staff who believe in HMEA's mission. Fundraising Events/Opportunities HMEA – Annual Independence 5k Race and 5k Walk, Roll & Stroll, hosted by EMC 2 each May when 2,200 people and over 200 volunteers and families come together to raise more than $200,000. The event is hosted by Gene Lavanchy of Fox 25 News and Steve Nelson, former New England Patriot and features free entertainment, food and drinks, children and family activities and much more. The 2015 event grossed $208,000. The 2015 Walk Run had 221 volunteers serving 742 hours for a value of $20,034. Autism Resource Central – Community Walk & 5K Run for Autism Awareness, held every April at DCR's Quinsigamond State Park in Worcester Massachusetts, where 2,000 people and over 100 volunteers and families come together to raise upwards of $225,000. There is free entertainment, children and family activities, music and much more and local autism service providers offer free information to families. *Team fundraising opportunities for the HMEA 5k Race and Walk, Roll & Stroll and the Annual Autism Resource Central Community Walk for Autism can be found through www.firstgiving.com. Volunteer Opportunities HMEA works with more than 200 dedicated and caring volunteers every year at our special events and in our programs. Volunteer opportunities are available for indi- viduals, as well as teams, to help out at our annual Walk/ Run in May, complete home improvement projects at our residences, provide clerical support or share a special talent or interest with the individuals we serve. HMEA volunteers include corporate teams, which volunteer as a way to build teamwork while doing good, giving back, and, at the same time, meeting businesses strategic goals of corporate social responsibility. Giving Opportunities The Dreams Come True Annual Appeal Fall: HMEA appeals to families, supporters and businesses, asking them to donate at their highest level to benefit individuals supported by HMEA. Winter: HMEA seeks donations at this traditional gift- giving time of year. Spring: All past supporters who have yet to make their donation receive an appeal prior to the close of the fiscal year for inclusion in the Annual Report. Memorial and Honorariums are accepted and acknowledged in honor or memory of loved ones or in recognition of individual achievements and accomplishments. In-Kind Donations of technology equipment (especially iPads for our Children's Services Staff ), home furnishings for our residential services as well as communication devices, physical and orthopedic equipment are accepted and can be made through www.hmea.org. Grantors and Private and Family Foundations: HMEA seeks donations throughout the year to support specific programs serving individuals with developmental disabilities, such as Autism, Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, around education, employment, self sufficiency and more.
