Faces of Brain Injury
A brain injury occurs every 13 seconds – unanticipated, unpredictable,
indiscriminate. Brain injury affects people of all races, genders and ages. BIAMA
responds to the challenges that survivors and their families face every day.
Claire
People thought it was stress...
After suffering a concussion, Claire kept playing in the
game. What she thought was a 'bump on the head' left
her with memory problems and chronic headaches,
forcing her to repeat 8th grade and give up soccer.
"If you have a concussion, the best thing
you can do is stay out of the game."
Scott
The driver didn't even brake...
"When you text and drive, you are putting your
life and the lives of others in danger."
A texting driver hit Scott while he was sitting at a light.
Memory problems, chronic fatigue and hypersensitiv-
ity to noise affects playing sports, hanging out with
friends and every other aspect of his life.
Leticia
The doctor said I was fine...
In 2003, the bottom fell out of Leticia's world when she
slipped on a patch of ice. Her traumatic brain injury
went undiagnosed for months. Working was impossible
but with rehabilitation and support from friends and
family, Leticia now speaks in BIA-MA's prevention
programs.
"A fall can change your whole life in a second."
