16 Worcester Business Journal • Giving Guide 2015 www.wbjournal.com Boys & Girls Club of Worcester Future Goals 1. Our campaign, Foundation for the Future, will expand our capacity so we can serve more of the kids who need us most. It will establish a planned maintenance fund and an operational reserve for a solid financial foundation and well- maintained facilities. In addition, through planned giving and named gift opportunities, we will work to increase our endowment. 2. 2014 set records for violence in Worcester. Here at the Club, we will increase our outreach to teens, to get them off the street and into life-changing programming. We will offer free memberships and send program staff on recruiting missions into the streets and into Worcester's high schools. 3. We will continue to strengthen our collaborations and develop new ones. We are grateful for our partnerships; through the YouthConnect coalition of Worcester's pri - mary youth-serving agencies, we have extended our reach sevenfold across the city. Local university students form the backbone of our volunteer program, and corporations like Hanover Insurance and Unum have invested in our outreach sites and programs. Fundraising Events/Opportunities September 17th: Sports & Celebrity Nite honors: • Senate Majority Leader Harriette Chandler • Jim Coghlin, local businessman and philanthropist • Tim Cooney, former Mayor of Worcester • Don Cushing, Basketball Coach at Bartlett High • Dr. Robert Johnson, Becker College President • Joan Sheary, legendary Dance Director at Burncoat High October 17th: Arts in the Evening celebrates visual, performing and wearable art with performances, vendors, a fashion show and entertainment by Dale LePage and In DA Zone, the Club dance team. Winter 2015: Holiday Giving brings our community together by collecting, wrapping, and distributing 2,000+ gifts. Donated gifts for children aged 5-18 are gratefully accepted. May 12, 2016: Our Women's Leadership Breakfast will honor our community's most capable and admired women, exceptional role models for Worcester's girls. June 16, 2016: Our Annual Meeting and Alumni Hall of Fame will showcase our talented and accomplished Club kids – past, current and future – as well as recognizing our Club's "Class of 2016." June 24, 2016: Our Golf Tournament is a fun day out in the sunshine, which also benefits a good cause. Volunteer Opportunities Individuals and corporate teams have many volunteer opportunities at the Club; 400+ children come through our Clubhouses every day, and we welcome help main- taining our facilities. We always need volunteers for yard work, painting, organizing and cleaning. We serve a free, nutritious dinner to 250 kids every week night during the school year, so kitchen volunteers are continually needed to prepare and serve meals in Kids Café. Individual volunteers are needed to mentor and tutor our kids, to lead activities, or to run classes that share their specialized knowledge. We seek local professionals to speak to our teens about job readiness, financial literacy, how to enter their field or to provide job shadowing opportunities. Time commitments vary. Volunteer orientation and a CORI check are necessary for some volunteer positions. For more information, contact Liz Hamilton at lhamilton@bgcworcester.org or 508-754- 2686 ext.205. Giving Opportunities Named gift opportunities are available at our flagship, Harrington Clubhouse in downtown Worcester. Sponsors are needed for our special events. Fall, year-end and spring annual appeals are sent out by mail. Online giving is available 24/7 on our web site: www.bgcworcester.org. Giving opportunities are also available in our monthly eNewsletters. Individual and corporate donations of toys for our annual Holiday Giving program, warm winter clothing and back-to-school supplies make a huge difference to our Club kids.
