Nova Star gets part of requested $2.5M subsidy Nova Star Cruises has received a little less than half of its requested $2.5 million (Canadian) subsidy from Nova Scotia's provincial government after having an initial request denied. e Yarmouth County Vanguard reported that the latest distribu- tion of $1.5 million was made after Nova Scotia's transportation depart- ment determined that's how much it needed to cover "pressing payables." e province initially declined Nova Star's funding request because it hadn't provided updated fi nancial information, but the issue has since been resolved. e future of the heavily subsidized ferry service is still up in the air as Nova Scotia offi cials continue to deliberate on whether to use Nova Star or another opera- tor for service between Portland and Nova Scotia for next year. e ferry service has received $9.6 million of the $13 million promised by Nova Scotia for this year. Sebago Brewing plans 'destination brewery' Supported by the growing popular- ity of craft beer, Sebago Brewing Co. said it plans to build a "destination brewery" that could be located near downtown Gorham. e Portland Press Herald reported that Sebago Brewing's proposed brewery would provide tours and beer tastings. It would also include a tap room that would be able to host small- to medium-sized events and would serve beer-centric food. e com- pany currently operates brewpubs in Gorham, Portland, Scarborough and Kennebunk.
