MILFORD — The $25-million fund- raising goal to upgrade Milford Regional Medical Center's facilities has received a boost that brings it close to fulfillment. An anonymous donor has given the medical center's "Excellence" campaign a $1-million matching chal- lenge gift, the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation announced. The campaign has already raised $23 million to support the medical center's building project. The dollar-for-dollar challenge gift means that if the foundation raises another $1 million in donations, it will have reached the $25-million goal. The initiative will result in a new emergency department, intensive care unit and pri- vate patient rooms, the foundation said. The two-story structure is expected to open in the fall. WORCESTER — USRowing's Masters National Championships is returning to Lake Quinsigamond next year, Destination Worcester said. The compe- tition will be held Aug. 18-21 and will be hosted by Destination Worcester and the Quinsigamond Rowing Association. The Masters event was last held on the lake in 2012, and was also held there in 2005. This year, it was held in Camden, N.J. More than 6,000 visitors are expect- ed to come to Worcester for the event, according to Destination Worcester Executive Director Christina M. Andreoli. It will feature athletes age 21 and older who will compete for titles in 202 categories. MARLB OROUGH — Ocata Therapeutics has been awarded a fed- eral grant to help pay for further pre- clinical development of a potential treatment for two forms of lupus, repre- senting a new potential product line, the company announced. The grant, whose amount was not disclosed, comes from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), according to a statement from Ocata. The company is developing a stem cell- based treatment for systemic lupus ery- thematosus and lupus nephritis. The two forms of the autoimmune disease impact healthy tissue and the kidneys, respectively. Separately, Ocata said it has secured up to $10 million in financing from Silicon Valley Bank, of Santa Clara, Calif., in part to push toward commer- cialization of a drug to treat forms of macular degeneration. HOLLISTON — A growing Chicago- based insurance brokerage has acquired a Holliston agency, the brokerage announced. MetroWest Insurance Group and Doctors Insurance Services of New England Inc. (DISNE) are now part of Hub International Limited. Terms of the acquisition were not dis- closed. WORCESTER — The Worcester Regional Transit Authority is adding a bus route that will run between three of the city's colleges throughout the aca- demic year, in an agreement with the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts (HECCMA). The new route, to be known as line 10 on the WRTA system, will run between Assumption College, the College of the Holy Cross and Worcester State University. The route will be subsidized by the three schools, and wiill add a bus stop at Assumption for the first time. The new route will enable students from HECCMA undergraduate institutions to reach other campuses and attend courses. The route will begin operating Aug. 31.
